Is an IV drip good for skin? Honestly, the evidence is thin. If you’re dehydrated after days of sun and heat, a drip can help you rehydrate, and you may look and feel less tired. But there’s no good evidence that a glutathione drip changes your skin in a lasting way.
And one thing needs saying clearly: there’s no reliable evidence that IV glutathione safely lightens skin. Regulators have warned against using it for that. We offer our glutathione drip only as antioxidant and hydration support, never to change your skin colour.
What glutathione is
Glutathione is an antioxidant your body makes itself. It helps protect your cells from oxidative stress, the kind of damage that UV light from the sun can contribute to.

A 2025 narrative review in Cureus notes that lower glutathione levels have been found in sun-damaged skin, including some skin cancers. That’s interesting science, but it doesn’t show that a drip repairs sun damage or protects your skin from the sun. Nothing replaces sunscreen, shade and a hat.
Does an IV drip lighten skin? What the evidence says
Glutathione is heavily marketed in parts of Asia as a skin lightener, partly because lab studies show it can affect how melanin, the skin’s pigment, is made. The human evidence for IV use is weak:

- Very few studies. A 2018 review in Dermatology Practical & Conceptual found that the clinical evidence for IV glutathione for skin lightening was limited to a single study with a dubious design and apparently flawed analysis. The authors called widespread IV use “unjustified”.
- Small, short-lived results. The 2025 Cureus review describes a trial where people had 1,200 mg of IV glutathione twice a week for six weeks. About 37.5% said their skin looked lighter, compared with 18.7% on placebo, and the effect faded within six months.
- Real side effects. The same review reports that 32% of participants in that trial had adverse events, including liver problems and one case of anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction. The authors concluded that the risks outweigh the short-term effects.
So how long does an IV drip take to lighten skin? There’s no honest answer to give, because there’s no reliable evidence it does so safely. That’s why we don’t offer it for skin lightening.
What regulators say
The Philippines Food and Drug Administration has warned the public about the unsafe use of glutathione as a skin lightening agent. Its advisory states that it has not approved any injectable product for skin lightening, that there are no published guidelines on dosing, and that possible side effects include toxic effects on the liver, kidneys and nervous system. It also warns that high doses of IV vitamin C have caused serious problems in people with G6PD deficiency.

In the US, the FDA has warned about glutathione made for injection from dietary-supplement-grade powder, after patients reacted with fever, chills, low blood pressure and difficulty breathing. Quality matters: what’s in the bag, and who makes it, is as important as the ingredient name.
Glutathione IV drip benefits we can realistically offer
Our Glow & Glutathione drip contains glutathione, vitamin C and biotin in a hydration base. It takes about 45 minutes. What it can realistically do:

- Rehydrate you if you’re dehydrated from sun, heat or travel
- Provide antioxidant support from glutathione and vitamin C
What it won’t do: lighten your skin, fade dark spots, treat sunburn or “detox” anything. The Cleveland Clinic also notes there’s limited scientific evidence for general wellness benefits from IV vitamins. We’d rather you book knowing that.
Is an IV drip good for skin after sun?
If your skin feels dry and tight after days in Krabi’s sun, start with the basics. The NHS advises that for sunburn you should get out of the sun, cool the skin with a cool shower or damp towel, moisturise, drink plenty of water and take pain relief if needed.

A drip may help with the dehydration part, but it isn’t a treatment for burnt skin. Blistering, swelling, fever or feeling shivery and sick after sun exposure needs a doctor, not a drip.
Who shouldn’t have a glutathione drip
The nurse may decline or postpone your drip, or ask you to check with your own doctor, if you:
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have kidney or liver disease, or have had kidney stones
- Have asthma, heart disease or high blood pressure
- Have G6PD deficiency
- Have reacted to glutathione, vitamin C or an IV treatment before
- Take regular prescription medicines

How many sessions do people book?
We don’t sell skin-lightening courses or packages of repeated glutathione drips. Studies that reported any skin change used frequent high doses over weeks, which is exactly the pattern regulators have raised concerns about.
If you’re thinking about more than one drip during your stay, tell the nurse when you book. Your nurse will advise you based on your health and what you’ve already had, with us or anywhere else. After your drip, our aftercare guide covers sun, swimming and bruising.
When to go to hospital instead
Go to hospital, or call 1669 for an ambulance, if during or after any drip you have:
- Swelling of the face, lips or tongue, a widespread rash, or wheezing
- Difficulty breathing or chest pain
- Fainting, confusion or a racing heart
- Yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine or pain under your right ribs
- Severe sunburn with blistering, fever or vomiting
The nearest hospitals are Wattanapat Hospital Ao Nang, Bangkok Hospital Krabi and Krabi Hospital.
Frequently asked questions
Will a glutathione drip lighten my skin?
We don’t offer it for that, and there’s no reliable evidence that IV glutathione safely lightens skin. Regulators, including the Philippines FDA, have warned against injectable glutathione for skin lightening.
Is an IV drip good for skin after sunburn?
It may help if the sun has left you dehydrated, but it doesn’t treat sunburn. Cool the skin, moisturise, drink water and stay out of the sun. See a doctor for blistering or fever.
What are the real glutathione IV drip benefits?
Rehydration, plus antioxidant support from glutathione and vitamin C. Evidence for wider wellness or skin benefits is limited, so we don’t promise them.
Can I go in the sun after a glutathione drip?
Yes, with your usual sunscreen and shade. A drip doesn’t protect you from burning.
How do I book?
Book a drip online or message us on WhatsApp. The nurse will screen you first and may suggest a different drip.
