IV Drip in Railay Beach: Hotel & Bungalow Visits

Longtail boats on Railay Beach in Krabi below limestone cliffs

Railay has no road access, which makes it a hard place to feel unwell. If you need an IV drip in Railay, a registered nurse from our IV drip clinic in Ao Nang comes to you by longtail boat and gives your drip in your hotel room or bungalow.

Whether you’re on Railay Beach West or tucked away in Tonsai, you don’t need to make the boat crossing while you’re dehydrated, hungover or recovering from a stomach bug. We bring the drip to you.

How an IV drip in Railay reaches you

Railay sits on a peninsula cut off by limestone cliffs, so everyone arrives by longtail boat, most often from Ao Nang beach. Our nurse makes the same trip with a sealed, single-use kit for each drip.

That boat ride means a visit to Railay takes longer to arrange than one in Ao Nang. The nurse has to reach the pier, wait for a boat and walk to your accommodation. Sea conditions can also slow things down, especially in the rainy season when the sea is rougher.

When you message us, we’ll give you an honest arrival time based on the boats and on where you’re staying. Boats run less often in the evening, so book Railay visits earlier in the day where you can.

The visit itself works just like our IV drip hotel visits in Krabi: a short health screening by the nurse, then a drip of 30 to 45 minutes with the nurse beside you the whole time.

Where we cover in Railay

  • West Railay (Railay Beach West): the main beach, with resorts facing the sea and the longtail landing
  • East Railay: the mangrove side with bungalows, bars and budget places to stay
  • Phra Nang: the beach and resort at the southern tip, a short walk from East and West Railay
  • Tonsai: the climbers’ beach next door, reached on foot around the rocks at low tide or over the headland

Tell us the name of your accommodation when you book. For hillside bungalows and Tonsai, a pin on WhatsApp helps the nurse find you faster.

Climbers, heat and dehydration

Railay is one of Thailand’s best-known rock climbing spots. Long days on sun-baked limestone, with heavy sweating and not enough water, leave many climbers dehydrated, dizzy or headachy by evening. Add a few drinks at an East Railay bar and the next morning can be rough. Our guide to hangover cures in Thailand covers what to try first.

Island Hydration is a simple fluid and electrolyte drip for dehydration from heat, exertion or a stomach upset. If last night is the bigger problem, a hangover drip in Railay is our Hangover Rescue, which adds vitamins and, if the nurse thinks you need it, medicine for nausea and headache. One nurse visit can cover several people in the same bungalow or group.

When to go to hospital instead

Railay is remote, so don’t wait if something feels serious. A drip is for mild dehydration, hangovers and minor stomach upsets, not emergencies. Call 1669, or get a boat to the mainland and go to hospital, if you have:

  • Chest pain, difficulty breathing or fainting
  • A fall or injury while climbing, especially to the head
  • Confusion, a very high temperature or signs of heatstroke
  • Blood in vomit or stool, or you can’t keep fluids down for 24 hours

The nearest hospitals are Wattanapat Hospital Ao Nang, Bangkok Hospital Krabi and Krabi Hospital (government). Your accommodation can help arrange an urgent boat.

Frequently asked questions

Do you really come to Railay by boat?

Yes. Our nurse crosses by longtail from Ao Nang and walks to your accommodation, carrying everything needed for your drip. You stay put.

Is a Railay visit more expensive than one in Ao Nang?

Railay visits involve a boat crossing, so there may be an extra travel cost. We’ll tell you the full cost, including any boat or visit fee, before the nurse sets off.

Can I come to the clinic instead?

Of course. If you feel well enough for the boat ride, you’re welcome to visit our Ao Nang clinic instead. Tell us when you book and we’ll have a nurse ready for you.

Can several of us have a drip together?

Yes. Groups of friends and climbing partners often book together. Each person has their own health screening and can choose a different drip. Book your Railay visit or message us on WhatsApp.

Is it safe to climb after a drip?

Give yourself a rest day if you were very dehydrated or unwell. If you feel completely recovered, light activity is usually fine, but ask the nurse first and keep drinking water.

Ready to feel better?

A registered nurse can come to your hotel or villa in Ao Nang and nearby beaches, or visit our clinic.
